What’s in your backpack? Move to Canada.

There is a nice little speech by George Clooney in a movie “Up in the Air”, 2009 about things that make it more difficult to move forward:

And I am not a great advocate of this life style because even if you watch this movie, you are going to see that living a life of Ryan Bingham requires a great confidence in everything. Everything from your financial future, your health, your job, your business etc.

But nevertheless, the film gives some sense of what people do to overly complicate their lives especially with excessive relationships. All I advocate for is a careful consideration whether you put something in your backpack or not πŸ™‚ So far my backpack allows me to move, but I feel its weight, so I probably need to train a little more stamina going forward.

There is a good money management principle I learned some time ago. It was intuitively clear before, but it was never formulated in short and in direct language: “Sell and take your profit when you can, not when you have to because when you have to there are no bids”.

I think this rule really could be applied to almost any aspect of our life, not just money:

  • Take a new job when you can, not when you have to (especially if it is a good one)
  • Save you money when you can, not when you have to.
  • Leave your country when you can, not when you have to.

And the last one is exactly what I’m going to proactively do next coming weeks. Today is a good day to announce the next big thing: I decided to exercise my lavish job offer and move with my wife to Canada πŸ™‚

A few days ago CIC approved my visa and my papers are all done now.

Here is my new flag, I think it is… stylish:

So, during next coming months I am relocating to Canadian City of Vancouver, British Columbia. I am going to cover this here in my blog, so you could learn my Canadian experience too. I will tell my first steps in Canada, how I manage my move, how I set things in Vancouver, how I look for a place to live, how I manage my finances during this move etc.

I am also thinking about making podcasts, so most likely you will be able to subscribe to audio too, but not right away, I probably going to start after a month in Vancouver.

The travel date is June 16th. Stay tuned.

  1. Will your visa allow your wife to work in Canada?
You have not written the name of the company that hired you πŸ™‚ Does it start with “A” and end with “n” ?

Actually I’m not surprised. You’ve moved towards to this direction step by step. Hope that you’ve found a better job and place to live!
